Tabang Visayas: Bogo

Starting the series of Tabang Visayas, a relief operation initiated by the company, a team went to Bogo town last Saturday, November 16, 2013.
Bogo, located in the northern part of Cebu Island, was greatly damaged by super typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) on November 8, 2013. Almost 90% of housing, crops, and fields have been devastated by the typhoon. Even the city’s sports complex, which served as an evacuation center, was not spared from the wrath of Yolanda.

A huge portion of the sports complex’s roof was damaged

A team composed of 10 people from different departments went to Bogo City. The team was divided into (2) two; one team stayed at the sports complex to help repack relief goods and another team went to distribute 1,600 liters of drinking water and over 2000 pieces of bread and biscuits.

With assistance from the Office of the City Mayor of Bogo, the second team went to remote barangays to distribute drinking water and bread.

Four barangays were covered by the relief operation: Kayang, Pulambato, Anonang Norte and Anonang Sur. Only barangay Kayang was able to benefit from the two tanks of drinking water. Unfortunately, the 1,600 liters that was brought was not enough to fully provide one barangay.

The Devastation

The incessant gratitude shown by the people over something as simple as bread and water was very overwhelming, and the determination and strength (of the victims) to keep smiling despite the tragedy both warms and breaks the heart.
The Team
